BIOL 540 - Techniques in Ecology and Environmental Sciences(4 credits) Prerequisite: Matriculation into the Master of Science program in Biology; or consent of instructor. This course introduces a diverse range of techniques applied in the fields of ecology, environmental sciences, and natural resource measurement. Students will conduct field and laboratory methods involved in evaluating the biological, physical, and chemical properties of terrestrial, wetland, and aquatic systems. concepts and laboratory exercises will address both theoretical background and practical applications related to ecological techniques. The lab will be a project based focus on hands-on experience in standard methods used by various state and federal agencies for systemic monitoring on landscapes, vegetation, water quality and quantity, biological communities and habitats, ecosystems, and animal populations. At least two Saturday field trips are required. Offered fall semester.
