PHIL 214 - Philosophy of Race(3 credits) Prerequisite: One course in philosophy (PHIL) or consent of instructor What is “race”? Do races exist? What is racism? What is the relationship between the continued use of racial categories and the persistence of racism? Is race central to one’s identity? This course will explore the philosophical assumptions behind concepts of race and the social and political effects of racial identities. Offered spring semester. (CHUM; CMCL)
