This course will examine the history of 20th century analytic philosophy by closely reading primary texts from key figures such as Frege, Russell, Wittgenstein, Carnap and Quine. Students will develop an understanding of the core methods, claims, attractions and limitations of analytic philosophy. As the rigorous analysis of arguments remains the central method of philosophical research, this class will also position students to participate in current debates. Offered alternate years.
