SPED 411 - Instructional and Curricular Strategies for Learners with Intensive Special Needs II

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: SPED 410
This course emphasizes planning of well-structured lessons with measurable outcomes as well as design, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practices for teaching learners with intensive special needs. Designing curricula in framework content areas, and other areas (e.g., behavior, social skills, employment skills, ADL skills), implementing interventions for individual and small group instruction, and program evaluation using progress-monitoring strategies toward intended outcomes are detailed. The assimilation of person-centered planning, evidence-based instructional strategies, integrated related services approaches, MCAS-ALT and transition planning is essential. Strategies for promoting self-determination skills and functional applications of augmentative and alternate technologies is also emphasized. 15-20 hours of monitored pre-practicum field-based experiences are required.
