GEOG 221 - Meteorology

Corequisite: GEOG 221L
This course introduces the basic atmospheric processes and important properties of the Earth’s surface that create changeable patterns. Students will use simple and state-of-the-art instrumentation to practice observing weather and learn the essentials of reading weather maps and how to make more accurate forecasts. Lectures and laboratories will focus on energy transfer, clouds, wind patterns, fronts, jet streams, precipitation, and various types of weather that impact society: ranging from local to global scales, such as severe thunderstorms and hurricanes. Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory weekly. Offered fall semester. (CNSL; CQUR)
