ENGL 407 - Research Methods in Technical and Professional Writing

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: ENGL 201 or ENGL 202; and ENGL 226
In this course, students learn and practice research in the field of Technical and Professional Writing (TPW), a subfield of Writing Studies, which involves studying communication in specific workplace contexts. Students explore the methods and theories used in TPW. Students will read a variety of sources and pursue research through various methodologies, including IRB protocols, usability studies and other qualitative methods. Students engage in research projects to begin to learn the ethics and practices central to the creation of knowledge in the field. Offered annually.
