This seminar provides an in-depth exploration of the theory and practice of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Mindfulness practice entails learning to direct the mind in particular ways. Course work explores how mindfulness-based interventions support, but differ from psychotherapy, and why these practices might improve overall quality of life. Students will have the opportunity to critically examine how this program draws on traditional psychological perspectives through readings in clinical theory and empirical research, as well as through meditative practices, experiential learning, discussion and self-reflective assignments. Offered annually.
