MATH 504 - Topics in Statistics

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: Admission to the MAT in Mathematics program; or consent of instructor
This course will cover select topics in statistics designed to prepare future teachers of statistics courses at the high school level. The students will be introduced to statistical methods for acquiring, describing and making decisions from data. Topics include inductive reasoning, sampling and experimental designs, linear regression, random variables, probability models, conditional probability, Bayes’ Theorem, expected values, confidence intervals for means and proportions, the Central Limit Theorem, common univariate distributions to include the normal, t and binomial distribution and an introduction to hypothesis testing.
