SOCI 205 - Sports in Society(3 credits) Prerequisite: SOCI 102 or consent of instructor Sport is a multi-dimensional phenomenon. It is so pervasive in the Western world that its mark has been stamped on every social institution. This course will use the conceptual frameworks, theories, and research methods of sociology to look at and better understand sport within the social context. The course will examine specific problems such as those faced by women in sport, ethnic outsiders and iconic sports figures. Topics including politics, education, deviance, the family, collective behavior, violence and stratification will be addressed. Offered fall and spring semesters.
