SCWK 510 - Human Behavior in the Social Environment I(3 credits) Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSW program; may be taken concurrently with SCWK 500 and SCWK 502 This course introduces students to the multiple contexts in which people function – communities, organizations and families – and to the theoretical base that underlies social work practice. Building on the contributions to our understanding of human functioning provided by biology, psychology, sociology, economics and political science, it explores the challenges and opportunities created by multiple systems and by diverse and sometimes conflicting theoretical explanations of human behavior. Offered annually.
