SCWK 431 - Social Work Practice with Individuals, Families and Groups(3 credits) Prerequisite: SCWK 338 with a minimum grade of “C” In this course, different practice models and theoretical perspectives will be examined with the goal of critical reflection on their usefulness and limitations in various practice situations. Focusing on the continuing development of practice skills and the ability to integrate them with social work knowledge and values, students address the development of the client/group/system relationship. Students also explore the differential use of self in assessment and intervention. In this course, students focus on diversity in all aspects of social work practice. Key topics include professional identity, the role(s) of the social worker and ways to address one’s own professional and personal needs in order to maintain high quality, ethical practice. Offered fall and spring semesters. May be taken for graduate-level credit.
