POLI 302 - Moot Court and Mock Trial Practicum(1 credit) Prerequisite: POLI 172 and consent of instructor This course involves students adopting the roles of both lawyers and witnesses in “mock” civil and criminal cases, and/or participating as lawyers arguing cases before appellate courts in “moot” court competitions. Students will be expected to participate at local, regional, and national competitions, and in doing so will acquire first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be both an attorney arguing a case before a judge, and a witness on the stand providing testimony. In addition, students will gain valuable experience in preparing opening statements and closing arguments, writing briefs, cross-examining witnesses, and providing authentic, credible testimony. Repeatable: may earn one credit per semester to a maximum of four credits.
