GRST 200 - Approaches to Global Religious Studies(3 credits) Prerequisite: Restricted to sophomores, juniors and seniors; or consent of the coordinator of the Global Religious Studies minor This course incorporates a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach to the study of global religions and spiritual expressions. The overarching aim of the course is to provide students with the capacity to understand religious studies from an academic and nonsectarian perspective. The course highlights the following themes: 1) there is distinction between the devotional expression of a religious belief and the academic study of global religions and spiritual expressions; 2) global religions and spiritual expressions are internally diverse, always evolving and changing; and 3) global religions and spiritual expressions are embedded in all dimensions of human agency and practices.
