SOCI 232 - Understanding Japanese Society(3 credits) Prerequisite: SOCI 102 or consent of instructor This course introduces students to Japanese society and culture. By focusing on central aspects of the Japanese cultural heritage, the course provides a solid foundation for understanding key features of contemporary Japanese culture and social structure. Among the topics covered are class and stratification, work and labor, gender stratification, the family, diversity and discrimination, food culture, popular culture, education, and the political system. The course also examines the regional and global roles of Japan. (CGCL; CSOC; CWRT)
