READ 651 - Socio-Psycholinguistics and Critical Literacy(3 credits) Prerequisite: Matriculation in CAGS in Reading; course restricted to cohort members A review of reading instruction in the United States gives literacy educators a historical perspective for understanding the work of researchers, teachers and curriculum developers in responding to rapidly changing materials, media forms and technologies. They examine theoretical processes and models of reading and writing to develop an in-depth understanding of socio-psycholinguistic and critical theories of language, literacy and learning. Includes 25 hours of fieldwork.
