MATH 302 - Abstract Algebra II(3 credits) Prerequisite: MATH 301 with a minimum grade of “C-“ This course extends the study of algebraic structures from groups to both rings and fields, with particular emphasis on polynomial rings and number fields. Topics include group actions on sets, linear groups, rings and ideals, field extensions and automorphisms, Galois theory, insolubility of the quintic, and the fundamental theorem of algebra. Offered annually.
