ENGL 496 - Seminar: American Literature and Culture(3 credits)
Prerequisite: ENGL 203 and ENGL 234 and one elective in American literature and six additional credits in the major at the 300-level or higher
This capstone seminar gives advanced English majors the opportunity for an in-depth study of selected authors and topics in American literature and culture. Students are expected to demonstrate a proficiency in interpretation and literary analysis as well as a familiarity with critical theory and major scholarship relating to the seminar topic through close reading, class discussion, oral presentations, and at least one carefully documented scholarly paper.
