ARTS 319 - Field Experience in Photography

(3 credits)
Prerequisite: ARTS 216 and ARTS 217 and ARTS 316; or consent of instructor
In this course, students will become prepared both mentally and practically to begin a career in photography. Students will be introduced to a variety of career options and gain the knowledge needed to operate a freelance photography business. Topics include creating a business plan, market research, self-promotion, portfolio development, legal requirements, tax preparation, professional organizations, equipment, studio development and pricing. Field trips and guest speakers will enhance the learning experience. Students produce a portfolio of commercial photography assignments. The class does not include darkroom instruction although students may use the college darkroom. Students must have access to an adjustable camera, a tripod, a cable release and a gray card. A handheld light meter is recommended. Meets six hours weekly. Offered annually. Additional fee required.
