ARTH 207 - Introduction to African Art(3 credits) Traditional arts of sub-Saharan Africa will be examined in cultural context, including sculpture, masks, painting, pottery, textiles, architecture and human adornment. Topics will cover how art is used to convey the cycle of life, to solve problems and to overcome adversity, with frequent comparisons to other cultures. The focus will be on the objects, with ethnographic material supplied to place the objects in the proper context. A museum or gallery visit is assigned. (CFPA; CGCL; CMCL)
