Studio Art Major Learning Outcomes

|
- To provide students with the fundamental understanding and abilities in artistic composition, and provide opportunities for exploration of various approaches to design elements and concepts. This exploration includes using compositional components in two-dimensional, three-dimensional and fourth-dimensional design.
- To offer a range of courses that cultivates sensitivity to the relationship between concept, form and content.
- Through studio and art history courses, to educate students to think conceptually and analytically about art, whether in their own work or that of others, and to be able to clearly articulate their ideas related to the creation or experience of art.
- To provide facilities and exposure to the latest forms of technology applicable to different aspects of visual creativity.
- To provide a global perspective through course offerings and course content, special programs, and the contributions of our diverse faculty and their global experiences.
- To offer different concentrations allowing students to pursue programs of study in areas of special interest in Crafts, Graphic Design, Art Education, Fine Arts, Photography and/or Art History.
- To present opportunities for students to participate in the cultural life of the University and region through exhibitions of their work, participation in art programs and tours, attendance at visiting artist events and gallery talks, visits to museums and galleries, etc.
- Through both formal and informal advising, offer programmatic guidance while the student is at the University, and offer direction in consideration of graduate study, the pursuit of career opportunities, and the promotion of one’s art. The contact with students as each pursues their education and career path often continues well beyond their graduation.
