Public Health Major Learning Outcomes

Students will:

• identify and describe the core values of diversity, equity, service, leadership, excellence and scholarship.
• describe and discuss the development and evolution of public health practice in the US and the world.
• critically evaluate and utilize the scientific method, scientific data and informatics tools to locate, use and analyze heath related information.
• utilize epidemiological skills and tools to determine needs and to design and develop health interventions.
• describe the etiology of chronic and communicable diseases.
• describe and provide examples of primary and secondary prevention strategies to address morbidity and excess mortality.
• identify environmental hazards that affect health and describe approaches for addressing said hazards.
• describe and discuss the links among the physical, social, psychological and environmental aspects of health.
• describe the influence of race, class, gender and sexual orientation on health disparities and health status.
• describe and discuss behavior, community and social change theories and apply them to the design and development of health interventions.
