Art History Major Learning Outcomes

At the end of the program majors should be able to:
- Exhibit a general familiarity with the history of artworks from pre-history to the present by placing works of art in proper stylistic contexts, and identifying and classifying artworks according to period and geographic origin
- Employ and make effective use of the vocabulary characteristic of the discipline of Art History
- Systematically gather evidence using both traditional library and online sources and present findings clearly and compellingly as a cogent argument in written and/or oral form
- Analyze and interpret artworks in relation to religious, political, historical and cultural contexts
- Compare and contrast multiple global artistic traditions, demonstrate an awareness of the history of art history, and describe different methodological approaches characteristic of the discipline
