The mission of the undergraduate degree programs in the Physics Department is to provide a challenging but supportive undergraduate academic program that includes a modern curriculum, effective advising, mentoring relationships and undergraduate research. The overall goal of the Physics Department is to educate all our students to be professional physicists no matter what career they choose. In support of our overall goal, we have specific outcomes for our BA and BS Physics degree programs.

For the Bachelors of Arts in Physics

  1. Students will be able to use mathematics effectively to solve problems in classical and quantum physics
  2. Students will be able to safely perform experiments using modern equipment
  3. Students will be able to write code in support of experimental or numerical work
  4. Students will be able to present physics clearly in written form
  5. Students will be able to present physics clearly in spoken form

For the Bachelors of Science in Physics (all concentrations)

  1. Students will be able to use mathematics effectively to solve problems and model physical phenomenon in classical and quantum physics, including statistical and thermal physics
  2. Students will be able to design and safely perform experiments using modern equipment
  3. Students will be able to write code in support of experimental or numerical work
  4. Students will be able to present physics clearly in written form
  5. Students will be able to present physics clearly in spoken form
