Music Major Learning Outcomes

The individual completing our BA in Music will be able to:
Outcome: Performance
Demonstrate performance skills necessary for artistic self-expression in one major performance area as well as keyboard proficiency.
- Demonstrate skills (e.g. in rhythm, tone quality, pitch/intonation, and articulation/diction) necessary for artistic self-expression in at least one major performance area.
- Effectively perform a varied repertoire in the major performance area.
- Demonstrate keyboard proficiency.
Outcome: Theory
Understand the common elements and organizational patterns of music.
- Identify the common elements and organizational patterns of music through aural recognition.
- Identify the common elements and organizational patterns of music through visual analysis.
- Analyze a musical score using appropriate analytical methods.
Outcome: History
Distinguish the major eras, composers, and genres of music history and literature within broad historical, cultural, and stylistic contexts.
- Recognize by ear the musical styles associated with the major eras of music history.
- Describe in writing the musical styles associated with the major eras of music history.
