BIOL 372 - Behavioral Ecology(3 credits)
Prerequisite: BIOL 225 with a minimum grade of “C-” or consent of instructor
This course will consider the patterns of animal behavior that have been observed in nature in relation to both ecological circumstances and evolutionary history. Conceptually, this class should help you understand how: natural selection shapes and constrains behavior; how behaviors develop from hereditary traits, environmental influences, and interactions between the two; and how behaviors have both ultimate (evolutionary) and proximate (physiological, biochemical) causes. We will also discuss the implications that natural selections’ shaping of behavior (including human behavior) has for human interactions and societies. Offered odd-numbered fall semesters.
